Two types of dry dog food have been recalled after several owners reported their dogs suffered from vitamin D toxicity after eating the food.
Natural Life Pet Products issued a voluntary recall of their Natural Life Chicken and Potato dry dog food in eight states while their Chicken and Chickpea dry dog food is being recalled nationwide.
An investigation began after several customers reported their dogs had suffered from vitamin D toxicity after eating the dog food. The investigation found that a formula error caused the dog food to contain too much vitamin D.
Too much vitamin D can cause serious complications for dogs. Vitamin D toxicity symptoms include: vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss.
If your dog has consumed any of the recalled products and is showing symptoms of vitamin D toxicity, contact your local veterinarian.
