According to reports, three children suffered fingertip amputations and two adults suffered smashed fingers due to a hinge defect in a popular model of strollers made by Kolcraft. The company has voluntarily recalled the strollers to prevent further injuries. According to the CPSC, approximately 36,000 affected strollers were sold in the United States and Canada between June 2006 and June 2012.
The recall affects Kolcraft Contours Options three- and four-wheeled strollers with model numbers starting in ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015, and ZL018 manufactured between January 2006 and November 2009. Depending on the model, consumers can locate the model number and date of manufacture either on a sticker placed above the left wheel or on a label sewn into the back of the stroller seat pad.
The CPSC recommends that consumers immediately cease using the product and contact the manufacturer for a free repair kit.
