Several vehicles were involved in a crash Tuesday on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Hampton Township. The crash happened in an active work zone. Fortunately, no workers were injured.
Policer report that a van and a tanker truck were both stopped for a work zone. A red car came from behind them and did not stop. The car then swerved left into the path of a box truck. The box truck had not time to react causing it to crash into the red car. The box truck’s front passenger wheel rolled on top of the car. Then both the box truck and the red car struck the van and tanker truck that were stopped for the work zone.
The driver of the red car was pinned inside his vehicle for 45 minutes and had to be extracted. A medical helicopter came and took the driver to UPMC Presbyterian. Two others involved in the accident were transported to local hospitals as well.
State police warn drivers to use caution when driving through work zones and to never text and drive.
