Five Injured in Head-On Collison in South Hills.
Saturday morning, along Route 51 in South Hills, a violent head-on collision occurred, leaving five injured. The accident occurred near the intersection of Streets Run Road.
According to Baldwin police, two pickup trucks struck each other head on. One of the vehicles burst into flames due to the impact.
The fire was put out by first responders. Everyone was able to get out of their vehicles to safety; however, all five people involved in the crash sustained injuries.
Police say they do know someone crossed the center yellow line, but it is not clear who. They hope to obtain surveillance video footage in the area to determine the cause of the crash.
Police also said the road design, with the center turning lane, prevents head-on crashes like the one that occurred. They said this is not a type of crash they typically see in this area.
An investigation is ongoing.
