Ford has issued a recall on 350,000 2018 Trucks and SUVs in the United States, Canada and Mexico due to defective transmission gears. The vehicle can show it is in a certain gear and in fact be in another. This poses a major threat for roll-away accidents
if the driver thinks the car is in park.
The recall affects the 2018 F-150 pickup (the top-selling vehicle in the U.S.) and the 2018 Expedition SUV (the larger version) with 10-speed automatic transmissions.
Ford says that the clip that locks the gear shift cable may come loose in some of the vehicles. This may allow a driver to remove the key, assuming that the vehicle is in park, while in fact the transmission is in another gear.
At this time, Ford says they are aware of one accident and one injury due to the defective gears.
Ford will begin notifying consumers April 16, 2018.
Recovering compensation after an injury from a defective product
It is a manufacturer’s responsibility to make sure their products are safe for consumers. If someone is injured due to a defective product, a product liability claim may exist. A claim may be pursued to pay for damages caused by the defective product such as medical bills, missed time from work and pain and suffering.
