A motorcycle crash near Shannon Lane in Derry Township has left one man dead and his passenger severely injured. According to police, the accident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
The motorcycle was struck head-on by a car that crossed the center line. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His female passenger was flown to UPMC Presbyterian. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury and to have a blood sample drawn.
No charges have been filed at this time. Police are still investigating the accident.
Both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were wearing helmets.
It has not been confirmed, however, most head-on collisions result from distracted driving. Distracted driving is not only illegal it is deadly.
