Another blood pressure medication has been recalled due to concerns it contains a small amount of a cancer-causing ingredient.
Torrent Pharmaceuticals is recalling Losartan products that contain N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) levels that are higher than the accepted amount set by the FDA.
The chemical, NDEA, is classified as a probable human carcinogen which is used to make liquid rocket fuel and is also a byproduct of fish processing. It is also used in the manufacturing of certain pesticides.
Torrent Pharmaceuticals has recalled a total of ten lots of Losartan potassium tablets.
The FDA urges consumers to consult their doctor before they stop taking the recalled medication. Stopping the medication without a substitute, could have greater risks.
