Types and Symptoms of Heart Disease
Heart Disease is actually a blanket term for a number of different conditions and diseases that affect the cardiovascular system. Together, they are the leading cause of death in the United States. There are several very common conditions that fall under the category of heart disease. Coronary Artery Disease is a condition in which arteries become clogged and restrict blood flow to the heart, causing the heart muscle to cramp, which can lead to a heart attack. Congestive Heart Failure results when the heart is not strong enough to pump blood to the body as it is needed, resulting in a backup of blood in the veins. Other common conditions are Cardiomyopathy, Ischemic Disease, Hyperintensive Heart Disease, Inflammatory Heart Disease, and Valvular Heart Disease.
While some symptoms, such as chest pain or angina, are well known and easy to spot, other times symptoms are less obvious. Shortness of breath, a quickened or irregular heartbeat, buildup of fat in the bloodstream, an enlarged heart, pain in the arms and legs, fatigue, and fluid in the lungs are all signs that you may have heart disease of some kind.
