Nissan Recalls 1.8 Million Altimas due to Dangerous Hood Latch.
The auto manufacturer, Nissan, has issued a recall on 1.8 million Altimas due to a dangerous hood latch defect. Overtime, when the primary hood latch corrodes, it can prevent the secondary latch from working. This can lead to the hood opening while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the likelihood of a crash.
In the U.S., the recall involves the 2013 through 2018 models of the Altima sedan.
There were previous recalls for Altimas regarding a defective hood latch. Even if a vehicle was fixed in a previous year, Nissan says those vehicles still need to replace that replacement part again.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nissan is currently working on a fix for the faulty hood latch. Owners will be notified beginning August 1, 2020.
