The tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 79 early Monday morning, when two of its tires fell off and crashed into the windshield of an SUV. The driver of the SUV was killed in the accident and the passenger was injured.
The SUV was traveling in the southbound lanes of Interstate 79, around mile marker 67, when the tractor-trailer’s tires struck their vehicle head-on. The state trooper who arrived at the scene of the accident, suspects the tires may have been dislodged from the tractor-trailer and that the driver of the truck may not have been aware. After becoming dislocated from the truck, the tires bounced across a grass median and crashed head-on into the SUV. The tires also sideswiped another vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 79. The driver of that vehicle was treated after the accident and then released.
Southbound traffic was confined to one lane as police investigated the scene of the accident. As the investigation continues, first responders urge anyone who might have information about the tractor-trailer or the accident to contact police.
