Neighbors reported that the vehicle the victim was in was traveling at speeds near 70-80 mph. The vehicle then lost control, hit a mailbox, then trees and a fire hydrant before coming to a rest in a neighbor’s yard.
The young victim was riding in the back seat when the accident occurred. Neighbors say he suffered severe head trauma and was taken to St. Clair Hospital where he died at around 1:45 a.m. due to his severe injuries.
At this time, no injuries have been reported for the driver and front-seat passenger.
The accident is still under investigation.
South Park now mourns the loss of a young man. The victim was 16 years old and a football player for South Park High School where he was their starting linebacker.
If the driver of the vehicle is found to be at fault, they could face serious criminal charges. The family of the victim may file a civil wrongful death claim as well.
Filing a claim after losing a loved one will never fill the void that is left. It is not a matter of profiting for the family left behind, but rather recovering. The recovery made can alleviate the unexpected funeral costs and expenses accrued when a loved one passes.
