Doctors are seeking to ban infant walkers after a 14-year-study showed more than 230,000 children were taken to emergency rooms for injuries due to walkers.
Most injuries occurred in children between seven and ten months old.
74 percent of injuries occurred due to falling down stairs with the walker. Over 90 percent of those injuries were to the head and neck.
In 2010, the Consumer Product Safety Commission placed a federal mandatory safety standard for infant walkers. Since the ban, injuries did fall 23 percent; however, researchers as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics, still want a ban on infant walkers.
If your child is using an infant walker, be sure to keep all doors to stairs closed and always keep an eye on them.
