The German auto manufacturer, Volkswagen, has issued a recall on 700,000 of their Tiguan and Touran vehicles due to a lighting defect. The recall involves the current year models of the Tiguan and Touran that were manufactured before July 5, 2018.
The manufacturer says the lights that are built into the sunroofs could short-circuit if they become wet. Heat from the short-circuit could damage the roof of the vehicle and in some extreme cases, cause the roof to catch fire.
Volkswagen is still working on a solution to the problem. The manufacturer says in the meantime, it is safe to drive your car unless you notice signs of your lights short-circuiting or singe marks appearing on the roof.
Recovering compensation after an injury from a defective product
It is a manufacturer’s responsibility to make sure their products are safe for consumers. If someone is injured due to a defective product, a product liability claim may exist. A claim may be pursued to pay for damages caused by the defective product such as medical bills, missed time from work and pain and suffering.
