Prestage Foods has issued a recall for 38,000 pounds of Ground Turkey due to a possible metal contamination. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has deemed the food to be unsafe. The ground turkey was shipped to Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New York, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. The defective meat is in 1.3-pound packages labeled “Publix ground turkey with natural flavors” and “Publix ground turkey breast with natural flavorings.” Also recalled is 1.2-pound trays of Aldi’s “Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey with Natural Flavoring” and 1-pound containers of “Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast.” The labels on the side of all the recalled trays begin with the first four digits 7268 or 7269.
The recall came about when several store employees said they noticed shiny metal fragments in the packaged meats.
So far there have been no reports of illness due to the consumption of these products.
