Sources say after the plane took off, one of the doors on the plane came off and hit the plane’s wing. The plane then crashed into trees and caught fire.
A few firefighters who were off duty and hunting in the same woods where the plane crashed, ran to the scene to help. When they got there, resort security was already helping one of the victims who crawled out from the crash. He was flown to Mercy Hospital with severe burn injuries where he later died.
The two other victims on the plane were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate and determine the cause of the crash.
The resort’s runway is 3,845 feet long and is a restricted-use airstrip used for takeoffs and landings. This means that pilots use this runway at their own risk. They reserve the use by contacting the resort’s security department.
