Around 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, a bicyclist was struck and killed. The accident happened on Connellsville Street in North Union Township.
The bicyclist was struck by a pick-up truck who then fled the scene of the accident.
Witnesses, including a nurse, stopped and tried to help the victim before emergency responders arrived.
The bicyclist was then taken to Uniontown Hospital where he later died due to his extensive injuries.
The suspect was caught approximately 15 miles away from the scene of the accident.
It is not certain as to why the suspect drove away from the scene of the accident or why he struck the bicyclist. An investigation is underway.
If the driver who struck and killed the man is found to be at fault, they could face serious criminal charges. The family of the victim may also file a civil wrongful death claim.
Filing a claim after losing a loved one will never fill the void that is left. It is not a matter of profiting for the family left behind, but rather recovering. The recovery made can alleviate the unexpected funeral costs and expenses accrued when a loved one passes.
