What Disability Benefits Do Lupus Patients Qualify For?

The Social Security Administration (SSA) offers two disability programs. Lupus patients may qualify for one or both programs, depending on factors such as their work history, income, assets, and the severity of their symptoms.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

SSDI offers benefits to those with a terminal condition or a disability that prevents them from working for at least one year. Claimants must have earned a certain number of work credits and paid into the Social Security program to qualify. 

Applicants are generally eligible if they have at least 20 credits (about five years of work). However, older individuals may require more credits, and younger people may require fewer. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
