Start A Free EvaluationWhat Disability Benefits Do Lupus Patients Qualify For?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) offers two disability programs. Lupus patients may qualify for one or both programs, depending on factors such as their work history, income, assets, and the severity of their symptoms.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
SSDI offers benefits to those with a terminal condition or a disability that prevents them from working for at least one year. Claimants must have earned a certain number of work credits and paid into the Social Security program to qualify.
Applicants are generally eligible if they have at least 20 credits (about five years of work). However, older individuals may require more credits, and younger people may require fewer. Your Alliance lupus SSD lawyer can explain how to find out the number of work credits you have earned and whether you qualify for SSDI.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
SSI is available to disabled U.S. residents who have little to no income and limited assets. Unlike SSDI, a work history is not required to qualify for SSI.
You shouldn’t have to do the hard work of filing for benefits alone. When you hire our law firm, we will determine which program(s) you qualify for and complete and file your application for you.

Contact Us Now For HelpOur Attorneys Can Help if the SSA Denied Your Lupus Disability Claim
If the SSA denied your initial lupus disability claim, you are not alone. In fact, the SSA denies approximately two-thirds of initial claims. Reasons the SSA may give for denying a lupus-related claim include:
- The impairment is not expected to last at least one year.
- The impairment is not severe enough to prevent the claimant from working.
- The claimant is not following their prescribed medical treatment.
Lack of supporting documentation, typos, and clerical or administrative errors can also result in a claim denial.
If the SSA denies your claim, you don’t have to give up hope. Our Lupus disability attorneys serving Alliance, Ohio, can help you file an appeal and fight for the compensation you need and deserve.
Your Disability Lawyer Can Walk You Through the SSD Appeals Process
The SSD appeals process includes four stages. The SSA may approve your claim at any stage:
- Reconsideration – Your attorney will ask the SSA to reconsider its opinion regarding your claim.
- ALJ hearing –Your lawyer will request a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) to review your claim. This hearing may take place in person, over the phone, or virtually.
- Appeals Council review – The SSA Appeals Council will review your claim to determine if the ALJ made a mistake in denying your claim.
- Federal lawsuit –The final step is filing a lawsuit in Federal District Court.
Your Alliance lupus disability lawyer can represent you throughout the appeals process, fight to prove your right to benefits, and ensure you file all required paperwork within the required deadlines.
You need an attorney with the experience and dedication to give your case the care it deserves.
