At Berger and Green, we have represented many clients who are living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). We understand how disabling these diseases can be. Many members of the Berger and Green team have also been personally affected by IBD, for this reason the Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis Walk is an event that we look forward to every summer.
Each year we have hosted a luncheon for our coworkers and building neighbors with all proceeds raised benefiting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. This year our fundraising efforts also included selling popcorn and a treat cart within the office.
The Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis Walk will be held on June 20, 2015. The walk will take place at Hartwood Acres in Pittsburgh. The staff of Berger and Green, along with their family and friends, will participate in the walk as well as donate to the cause.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Crohn’s and Colitis, Crohn’s disease belongs to a group of conditions known as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). It is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease of the large intestine, also known as the colon, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers. The combination of inflammation and ulceration can cause abdominal discomfort and frequent emptying of the colon.
Although considerable progress has been made in IBD research, researchers do not yet know what causes this disease. Studies indicate that the inflammation in IBD involves a complex interaction of factors: the genes the person has inherited, their immune system and something in the environment.
