A motorcycle crash on East Carson Street and South 11th Street has left one man dead. According to police, the accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday night.
The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where he later died due to the extent of his injuries. He was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.
The accident is still under investigation and the cause of the crash has not been determined. However, a Port Authority bus was behind the vehicle and captured the accident on video. This video will be used to help determine fault.
Although the cause is still under investigation, there are a few common causes of crashes involving a motorcycle.
Drivers of motor vehicles tend to merge into lanes without seeing a motorcyclist which then causes an accident. Also, drivers turning in front of motorcycles is a common way an accident occurs. Drivers do not realize that motorcyclists cannot slow down as easily as a vehicle can.
